Ring of Omnipotence, Ring of Power, Sovereign Ring, Supreme Ring of Power, One Ring, One Ring (eng. One Ring) - in Tolkien's legendarium, the main Ring that rules and commands other Rings of Power.

History of the Ring

The Magic Rings were created by Celebrimbor and the other elves of Eregion at the instigation and with the help of Sauron. Nine Rings were distributed by Sauron to the people, seven to the Dwarves; in all of them part of the dark power and will of Sauron was laid; three more rings were forged by the elves in secret from Sauron and did not carry dark power.

After the creation of the Rings of Power, Sauron himself and secretly forged the One Ring on Mount Orodruin, investing in it most of his strength and will. Thus, having become the master of the Ring, he simultaneously became dependent on it; nevertheless, it was Sauron who commanded the Ring, and not vice versa; but the Ring was the focus and foundation of his power.

The ring had its own will, thanks to which it could, in particular, leave the owner on its own (for example, slipping off the finger). The owner of the Ring himself, as a rule, could not voluntarily refuse it. The Ring of Omnipotence, worn by anyone other than Sauron (as well as Tom Bombadil), made him invisible, extended his life, gave him some power, but at the same time disembodied him. It could subjugate other Rings of Power, which was the cause of the (first) War of the Rings, which resulted in the destruction of Eregion and the death of Celebrimbor.

Curse of Isildur

When in the Battle of the Last Alliance Isildur, son of Elendil, defeated Sauron and cut off his finger, on which the Supreme Ring was put on, the latter passed to Isildur.

The ruler of the elves of Rivendell (at that time the herald of Gil-galad, king of all the Noldor of Middle-earth) Elrond advised Isildur to destroy the One Ring. However, that had already managed to influence the man, and he refused, leaving the Ring to himself. Isildur intended to make the Ring a family heirloom and pass it on to his heirs. But this was not destined to happen, for the will of the Ring led its new owner to death: on the way to Arnor, Isildur's detachment was ambushed by the orcs of the Misty Mountains, in which the entire detachment died, including Isildur's three sons: Elendur, Aratan and Kirion. Isildur himself, putting on the Ring, tried to flee. Having reached Anduin, he tried to escape by swimming (without armor). But as he swam, the Ring slipped from his finger. Isildur was slain by the orc archers of the Misty Ridge. The ring remained at the bottom.

The discovery of the Ring and its return to the world

The One Ring lay in the Anduin River for many years until it was accidentally found by Deagol. His friend, Sméagol (who later became Gollum), took possession of the Ring by killing Deagol. Since Gollum was weak in spirit, the Ring immediately enslaved him; and it was under his influence that Gollum committed his first murder and fled into the underground caverns through which part of the Anduin flowed. There he led the life of an exile. Gollum lived many hundreds of years supported by the Ring; invisibility allowed him to hunt and get his own food; during this time he finally became a slave to the Ring.

In TE 2941, while traveling with the Dwarves, the hobbit Bilbo Baggins got lost in the caves of the Misty Mountains. The Ring of Omnipotence decided to leave Gollum and move on to a new owner. Bilbo found the Ring and soon established its ability to make the wearer invisible; this allowed him to leave the dungeon safely and helped on his further journey; however, Bilbo was unaware of the true nature of his find.

Bilbo owned the Ring (wearing it only occasionally) for several decades (the Ring thus supported his longevity and slowed down the aging process). Hobbits were later found to be the most resistant to dark forces among all the peoples of Middle-earth, and the Ring could not completely subjugate Bilbo to itself, although Bilbo was not the real owner of the Ring. Another reason was that Bilbo's possession of the Ring began out of pity, not finishing off Gollum when he had the chance.

Meanwhile, the Council of the Wise, led by Saruman the White, began searching for the One Ring. However, in search of the Ring, Saruman, using palantiri, fell into submission to the will of Sauron. The latter, having gathered strength, returned to his possession - Mordor, where he began to create new armies of orcs. Together with him, the Nazgul returned to the world, who were immediately instructed to find the Ring of Omnipotence.

War of the Ring

Another member of the Council of the Wise, Gandalf the Grey, bearer of the elven Ring of Fire of Narya, was the only member of the Council to take an interest in hobbits. He was the first to establish that the ring Bilbo found was the Ring of Sauron.

Bilbo, greatly exhausted by the influence of the Ring, on his anniversary - 111 years - on the advice of Gandalf decided to leave the Ring to his nephew Frodo. After some time, having learned about the search for the Nazgûl, Gandalf warned Frodo, telling him to immediately leave the hobbit settlements, and made an appointment in the village of Bree.

Gandalf informed Saruman, unaware of his treachery, that he had found the Ring. However, Saruman, who himself wanted to get the Ring, imprisoned Gandalf in his tower (Orthanc) in Isengard. Meanwhile, the servants of Sauron caught Gollum, who, under torture, gave the name of Bilbo Baggins. At this time, the Nine were already approaching the Shire, the hobbit city where the Baggins lived, with the goal of returning the Ring to Sauron.

Gandalf managed to free himself from captivity. Frodo and his companions were escorted by the crown king of Gondor and Arnor, Aragorn, to Rivendell to Elrond, where Frodo met with Gandalf. At the Council of the Wise, it was established that the possession of the Ring of Power irreversibly changes the wearer, making him either a slave or a new Dark Lord - if the wearer has sufficient will and strength; The ring was decided to be destroyed. The only way to do this was to throw it into the mouth of the Orodruin volcano in Mordor, in the depths of which the Ring was forged.

Frodo, Sam, Pippin, Merry, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Gimli, called the Fellowship of the Ring, volunteered to take the Ring to Mordor.

In the end, Frodo and his fellow hobbit Sam, accompanied by Gollum, whom they met along the way, managed to get to Orodruin. There, standing on the edge of the vent, Frodo suddenly made a different decision and, refusing to destroy the Ring of Omnipotence, put it on and declared it his own. However, at the same moment, Gollum, intending to regain the Ring, naively believing that he could become his master again, attacked Frodo and bit off his finger along with the Ring - and, having stumbled, together with the Ring fell into the mouth of Orodruin. So the Ring of Omnipotence was destroyed, and with Him the power of all the rings created before Him dried up.

Inscription

When creating on the Ring of Omnipotence, an inscription (part of a verse) was made in the language of Mordor:

Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatuluk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

Translated into the language of the people of Arda (in the original book it was indicated simply by the text in English language):

One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

There are different translations of this verse into Russian:

One ring will conquer them
One will bring them together
One will draw them
and binds them into a black chain,

Translation by J. Mara:

The Ring of Omnipotence is one and one,
But a mortal cannot own it.
Only the Lord, alone in the whole universe,
They are destined to rule, and with him - the mortal planet.

Translation by N. Grigorieva and I. Grushetsky:

To find everyone, to convene together
And with a single black will to shackle ...

Kistyakovsky's translation:

And one - the Almighty, the ruler of Mordor
To separate them all, to deprive them of their will
And unite forever in their earthly vale...
Under the dominion of the all-powerful Lord of Mordor

Version from the Russian dubbing of Peter Jackson's film "The Fellowship of the Ring":

One ring to rule them all
It is the most important
It will bring everyone together
And shut up in darkness.

Translation by A. V. Nemirova:

The Ring will bind them, bind them without chains,
Three, Seven and Nine will bind One,
Will break their will, it will extinguish,
In Mordor gloomy, dwelling of shadows.

Translation by V. Seated:

In that one Ring is the power of all rings.
Will bring everyone to the same end.
To Mordor, where countless Forces of Darkness converge.

Variant from the Russian dubbing of the cartoon "The Lord of the Rings":

One ring to rule the world
One ring to find everyone
To shackle them
And leave in the dark!

A few more options:

One ring will conquer the rest
One ring will find them
One ring will gather the rest
And weave together into the Darkness.

Find Them, Gather Them, Give Them To Him,
Forge together and cast into Darkness.

To convene together - to One, to gather together - to One,
Forge together - To one and cast them all into darkness

The ring of omnipotence is mentioned more than once in John Ronald Tolkien's book The Lord of the Rings. Artifact, according to the author, has a will. He subjugates everyone except his creator. If the ring is not on it, it gives the wearer eternal life, but at the same time, overshadows the mind. Is this an invention of Tolkien, or does the ring have a real historical prototype?

The history of the ring of omnipotence

It was created by the dark wizard Sauron. He forged the ring in the second age of Middle-earth. In those days, Sauron worked together with the blacksmiths of the kingdom of the elves. They thought they forged 19 rings of power. The elves kept three of them for themselves, presented 7 to the dwarves, and the remaining 9 to people. Only the one who created the ring of omnipotence knew about the 20th ring, which unites all those created before it and commands them all.

This is the story of the ring based on the book "The Lord of the Rings". The real story is different. Ring of Omnipotence has a real prototype. This was confirmed by the author of the trilogy himself. At one time he taught at Oxford. Tolkien had a degree - a professor. The writer's specialization is the Anglo-Saxon language. It was inscribed with the name of the deity on a clay tablet discovered by archaeologists near the city of Lindi. Tolkien was approached for deciphering the name and other inscriptions.

The message was about a curse. It was put on his ring by a certain Silvan. On the tablet, he wrote that he had forged the ring himself in order to pray to the unknown spirit Nodens. Meanwhile, the attribute was stolen by a man named Sinetsian. The owner of the ring cursed all bearers of this name. The curse, said on the clay artifact, would last until the ring returned to its owner, or to the temple of God Nodens.

Clay tablet found in Gloucestershire. Excavations were carried out in the area, popularly called the hill of the dwarves. Later, in the museum depositories, there was also a ring, which was mentioned in the message. It turned out that archaeologists found it even earlier, in 1785. The inscriptions “Sylvan, live in peace with God” on the gold item, scientists did not attach any importance. The ring of the Roman era, like an ordinary little thing, was placed in a museum.

Tolkien was interested in the history of the ring, which was told by a clay tablet. Based on it, the professor came up with the plot of a new book, known to everyone as the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The historical prototype of the literary decoration is now on public display in the county of Hampshire, which is located in the county of Vine.

The meaning of the ring of omnipotence

The inscription on the ring of omnipotence from Tolkien's book differs from the historical message. On the ring from the book is inscribed: - "To find everyone, to call together, and to shackle with a single black will." True, this is only one of the interpretations of the inscription, made in the fictitious language of Mordor. In the translations of different authors, there are variations of the message. In the original book, the decoding of the symbols is given by Tolkien in English. In the translation of these same lines, foreign writers cannot decide. They consider what is written on the ring of omnipotence or:

- One ring will conquer them, attract them, forge them into a black chain

or

Ring omnipotence one and one, but it is not given to a mortal to own it. Only the ruler alone in the entire universe is destined to rule them.

In total, there are about 10 decodings of the message displayed in the metal of the great ring. Tolkien wrote the phrase in verse, which is very difficult to translate the language unambiguously and at the same time smoothly.

The sign of omnipotence is not on its creator, and not on the finger of another creature - a sign of the chosenness of this creature. Having its own will, the ring subjugates itself. Only one whose will is stronger than the magic attribute can resist him. Once wearing a piece of jewelry, only a special person can take it off. Such, in the Tolkien trilogy is the hobbit Frodo.

People also want to feel special, moreover, real ones. Jewelers work for them, creating copies of a book ring. Masters offer order a ring of omnipotence. It is performed both from precious and simply from jewelry alloys. So, a 10-gram tungsten carbide jewelry costs about 2,000 rubles. From silver ring of omnipotence to buy can be in the region of 1,000 rubles. Samples of gold, for the most part, cost from 2,500 rubles.

magical properties rings of omnipotence

According to the book "The Lord of the Rings", the magic ring has the ability to make its wearer invisible. True, a person disappears only by putting the product on his finger. At the same time, being invisible to ordinary mortals, the wearer of the ring becomes visible to the dark forces. Those who in real life acquired ring of omnipotence,

Five thousand years before the events described, the Dark Lord Sauron secured the friendship of the elves. He taught the elves how to create rings of power, weaving skill and magic into them. Many wonderful rings were forged under his watch, but Sauron himself created only one.

This smooth ring of yellow metal was created in the vent of the Orodruin volcano. The Dark One put all his will and power into this ring, because it had to subdue the rest of the rings. The plans and actions of all the owners of magic rings were led and subject to the owner of the ring of Omnipotence.

On its inner surface, Sauron inflicted the words of the spell, expressing the essence and purpose of the ring. The inscription was inscribed by the ancient Elvish on the sinister land of Mordor. When the ring came out of the fire and disappeared. However, as soon as Gandalf threw the ring into the fire in Frodo's house, the inscription appeared again. Gandalf translated it from the Mordorian language into the common language: "To find everyone, call together and shackle with a single black will."

Sauron's spell

As soon as Sauron put on the ring, the elves realized that they were trapped. War broke out. As a result, Sauron captured sixteen rings, and the three most powerful were hidden by the Elven rulers.

They all appear in The Lord of the Rings. Galadriel owned the ring of water - Nenya, Elrond commanded the ring of air - Vilya, and the ring of fire, Narya, was once given to Gandalf by Cardan the Shipwright, so that the gray magician would light hearts in the cooling world with his help.

Sauron used the rest of the rings for his own purposes. Seven rings were given to the leaders of the dwarves, so that they were possessed by a thirst for gold and profit. Civil strife began, dragons flew into the mountains, and the dwarf kingdoms fell into decay.

Sauron gave the nine rings to the kings of men, making them his slaves forever. In the film, nine Nazgul led by the Witch-king are hunting for the Ring of Omnipotence - these are the former rulers of people.

Thus, two lines from an ancient spell are inscribed on the ring of Omnipotence, which fully sounds like this:
“Three - to the elven lords in the substellar limit;
Seven - for the dwarves reigning in the piedmont expanse;
Nine - to mortals, whose term and destiny are verified.
And one thing - the ruler on the black throne
In Mordor, where eternal darkness:
To find everyone, to convene together
And forge with a single black will
In Mordor, where eternal darkness.

J.R.R. Tolkien The Fellowship of the Ring, translation of poems by I. Grinshpun. "North-West", St. Petersburg, 1992.

The popularity of the epic Lord of the Rings» has reached such a level that many attributes have moved into real life. Ring of Omnipotence is just one of those attributes. In Mordor, it had impressive magical power and gave power over other rings. Sauron created these rings to control magic, and he was the last to forge the ring of omnipotence, putting the most power into it. Through this ring he commanded other rings. However, there is always a price to pay for magic, so not only Sauron commanded the ring, but it also kept him dependent to some extent. He could no longer refuse it.

In addition to strength, the Ring of Omnipotence had its own character, its own will. It could independently slide off the finger of its wearer. Throughout history, the ring has repeatedly changed its owner, was lost, unleashed wars and influenced significant events in the novel. Many sought to take possession of the ring, but not everyone managed to cope with it later. The Ring of Omnipotence instantly enslaved a person with a weak spirit. The only one who was immune to the pressure of the ring is Bilbo. He wore it infrequently, but at the same time he was able to get the most out of it for himself, prolonging his life and maintaining health with his help.

Tolkienists know that at the end of the story, the ring was destroyed by falling into the heated mouth of Orodruin. In our reality, such a ring can appear in anyone for a certain amount of money. Fans of the famous cult epic are especially eager to have it. The ring of omnipotence exactly copies the version described in the book and film. The inscription on the ring of omnipotence looks very impressive and gives it authenticity. It displays the text in Mordorian. This is part of a verse that says that this ring helps to rule everything, collects everything into a single whole and dominates, enclosing in darkness. Is this really so - you can easily check if you buy a ring of omnipotence.

Many Tolkien fans sincerely believe that the Ring of Omnipotence will endow them with special energy, strength and the ability to control others. And if a person strongly believes in something, then, in the end, it begins to come true. The main thing is that the balance does not outweigh in reverse side and the man did not become a hostage of the ring. However, it will undoubtedly give confidence to its owner. Such a ring is now in fashion, and it has not yet become mainstream, so it's time to buy the Ring of Omnipotence and enjoy its colorfulness. It is equally suitable for both men and women, effectively decorating the hand.

From the models offered today on the Internet, you can choose the one that suits you, but you need to be more careful. Now the expanses of the network are flooded with cheap fakes made of low-quality metal. In fact, the material from which a real ring of omnipotence should be made is tungsten. It is he who is resistant to external stimuli and is not subject to wear. The tungsten ring of omnipotence is not afraid of fire, does not corrode from moisture. He is not afraid of falls and other mechanical influences - such a ring will not get scratches, he is not afraid of deformation. Particularly successful are models that use an alloy of carbide with tungsten - they are the most durable and stable.

From above, the Ring of Omnipotence is covered with a gilded coating. It looks just like gold, only much stronger. You can also find silver-plated models on the Internet. Colors can range from steel to copper. The most popular rings are golden-straw color. It is this color that is closest to the original. The ring of omnipotence looks very stylish on the hand and attracts the views of others. However, it is very important to buy a real American-made ring, and not a cheap fake. It is impossible to be completely safe in this case, the only way out is to buy a ring from a reputable seller, and not on a one-day website. The original ring is sold in a velvet bag with the "Lord of the rings" logo, a certificate and is released by the New Line Cinema company.

This ring has an inscription on both sides. It must have a certificate indicating the material of manufacture. The stability and strength of a real ring of omnipotence is simply amazing. It will not melt even at a temperature of +200 degrees - you can safely put it in the oven and check. You can also distinguish it by its external gloss - the true quality cannot be confused with anything. Not only the ring itself is durable, but also the inscription on it. It is made by laser engraving of exceptional quality. That is why the inscription on the Ring of Omnipotence is not prone to abrasion or tarnishing - it will look like it did on the first day after many years.

(pictured is an example original packaging Arwen's pendant, another iconic piece from the movie)

One more hallmark of the real Ring of Omnipotence is its hypoallergenicity. Many people have sensitive skin to metal. If the jewelry is made of low-quality alloy, the hand or ears, when worn, begin to itch after a while, and become covered with a rash and redness. However, the true Ring of Omnipotence will not cause such unpleasant consequences. Tungsten compounds are not harmful to the skin and are not capable of causing allergies. Therefore, you can not be afraid and feel free to buy this spectacular ring. Moreover, it will endow its wearer with strength and confidence, bring good luck in all matters. It will be much easier to bend the changing world for yourself if such a ring shines on your finger. But you need to carefully monitor it - so that it does not slip off inadvertently, because it is so self-willed!

It is also worth noting that many jewelry companies have begun to produce such a ring in precious metals - silver, gold and platinum. In addition, they are popular wedding rings"omnipotence", and turn out to be utterly symbolic!

Ceramic rings also look stylish and cause allergies, but they should be worn very carefully so as not to accidentally drop them!

The ring of omnipotence will become a wonderful gift for any holiday. An admirer of the Lord of the Rings epic will especially appreciate it. But it will also be interesting for an ordinary person to receive such a ring as a gift, because it looks so stylish that it is impossible to resist it. You can also buy the Ring of Omnipotence for yourself - this is a great option to treat yourself to a luxurious new thing. And it's also very original way make an offer! If your loved one grew up on Tolkien's novels, the answer is absolutely “Yes!”.

TO The Ring of Omnipotence (also known as the One Ring) is one of the most powerful artifacts in Middle-earth. The ring was created by the dark lord Sauron in the fires of Mount Orodruin during the Second Age. His intention was to greatly increase his own powers and control other magical rings that were made by Celebrimbor and his people with the assistance of Sauron. Thus Sauron wanted to gain power over the elves and other races of Middle-earth.

Sauron understood that for this the ring must contain a huge amount of power. Therefore, he concentrated part of his inner strength into the ring, and the ring became a part of himself. Thus the fate of Sauron became directly linked to the fate of the ring. If the ring were destroyed, the same would happen to all of Sauron's inherent power.

As soon as the Ring of Omnipotence was forged, Sauron loudly uttered the words that are written in elven runes on it: "One ring to rule all. It will find everyone, It will gather everyone together and conclude in darkness." When he said this, the elf Celebrimbor, the maker of the rest of the magic rings, heard him from afar and realized the insidious plan of Sauron.

The Ring of Omnipotence looked like a simple gold ring, but it was not subject to physical destruction. Even the flame of the dragon, which could destroy any other magic ring, could not harm the Ring of Omnipotence. It could only be destroyed where it was made - in the fire of Orodruin in Mordor.

At first, Sauron tried to subjugate the elven lords by means of the Ring of Omnipotence, who were presented with three rings of elves. However, as soon as Sauron put on the One Ring, the elves immediately realized his presence and removed their rings so that he would not bend them to his will. The Dark Lord did not expect such a failure and fell into a rage. He decided to capture all the magic rings by force and went to war in Middle-earth. He managed to return all 9 rings of people, and he also caught and tortured Celebrimbor so that he gave him the keepers of the remaining rings. He told about the 7 rings of the dwarves, but died under torture, without telling about who got the 3 rings of the elves.

Although Sauron made the ring in order to subdue the thoughts and actions of those who wear the other rings, the secondary effects of the ring served him in fact much more. The longer he wore it, the more powerful he became.

Only a person with mighty willpower and inner potential could turn this property to their advantage - for example, maya, elven or Númenórean lord. For others, the greatest positive effects were extended life and invisibility. Although the ring also had less significant beneficial effects. For example, Sam could understand the orc language when he temporarily carried the ring, and it could also create illusions: somehow one of the orcs saw in Sam a mighty warrior hidden in the shadows. Hypothetically, the Ring of Omnipotence could be used by someone from the powerful of this world to destroy Sauron - however, after some time, its owner himself would turn into who Sauron was. For this reason
